A rainbow appears when the low sun, behind you, lights the rain falling in front of you. That means a passing shower with the sun breaking through, and the sun low in the sky rather than high overhead. Whether the gap opens at the right moment is the part no forecast can promise.
What to check in the field
This is a Watch look: the ingredients are forecastable, but whether the sun actually breaks through opposite the shower to throw the bow; that broken-cloud timing is something the point forecast cannot see. Shotcast flags it so you know to go and look.
